Homework, Reading, and Wednesday Folders
Fifth grade students at Cordova Villa are expected to complete homework each night. In 5th grade, homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday and will be due the following day. The assignments will vary daily. If a student does not complete their homework or keep up on their daily reading they will attend study hall on Friday afternoons.
We also ask that your child reads at least 20 minutes a day outside of assigned omework. Your child has not grown out of being read to. You, as a family member, serve as a great reading model. The choice of reading material can cover a wide range – from high interest books to comics, newspapers, “How to” directions, to magazines. Have fun, be creative and please READ.
Folders will be sent home each Wednesday with your student. This will contain class work, notes from the teacher and school information.
Physical Education, Music, Library
Students will have P.E. daily and music on Monday and Wednesday. Please make sure your student is wearing appropriate footwear that accommodates exercise each day. Library will also be visited weekly. Students must return their library contract before they are allowed to check out books.
Tips & Suggestions
Please send a nutritious snack for your child each day. Fruit, crackers, small sandwiches, or cheese are recommended. Please no high sugar snacks, sodas, large bags of chips, or candy. Snacks are very important and help the students stay focused on learning throughout the morning.
Send your child in shoes that are safe, with backs and suitable for running at recess and PE. Our dress code guidelines can be found in the school handbook (posted online).
Students need lots of rest and good nutrition to function well. Like anyone else, they sometimes tire of the job of going to school. Be patient and please let us know if the phase doesn’t pass.
